Americans Spend $100 Billion On Summer Travel

Summer Travel Is Hot, Hot, HOT.

Summer travel is the lifeblood of most travel agents, so the results of a recent survey about summer travel plans by a major insurer should be music to your ears.

For the first time, Americans will spend more that $100 billion on summer travel — $101.1 billion to be exact. That represents a 12.5% increase over last year!

Key points from the survey:

Gen-Xers (those age 35 to 54) will spend the most on their summer travel — $2,628 per person on average.

Millennials (18 to 34) will spend the least — ($1,373)

Surprisingly, baby boomers, usually thought of as the most affluent of travelers, will spend just $1,865 per person on their summer travel plans.

Remember these are average figures. Many people — the ones you want to target —  spend much more!

The survey tracks people’s confidence that they will take a vacation. Here again, the news is good for summer travel.

Forty-one percent are confident they will take a summer vacation, 51 percent plan one for sometime in 2017, and 10 percent have already taken one.

The national polling firm Ipsos Public Affairs conducts The Vacation Confidence Index each summer on behalf of Allianz Global Assistance USA. A vacation is defined as a leisure trip of at least a week to a place that is 100 miles or more from home.

This increase in consumer confidence about summer travel proves once again that this is a tremendous time to be a home-based travel agent.

If you are already a home-based travel agent you’ve probably seen these statistics reflected in your summer bookings. Or perhaps you’ve been thinking about becoming a travel agent but are still on the fence about taking the plunge. This data may tip the scales for you.

If so, I encourage you to invest in the Home-Based Travel Agent Success Course. You get immediate access with a no-questions-asked money back guarantee.
